Goodreads Description: Kaia’s entire life has erupted in flames after an assassin appears and burns her village down. She’s rescued by a god from another planet who requests her help because she’s the descendant of their last savior. Together with Reeze — the only other survivor from her village and her appointed guardian — they set off on a quest to find the treasures of the gods in hopes of preventing a dire prophesy. Kaia and Reeze quickly meet the Tueors, a group of people many thought extinct, who are searching specifically for Kaia. Their intention: to protect the truth. As Kaia discovers more about the truth and her family’s past, she also learns of the Tueors’ bloody secret. Will Kaia be the savior the gods have been waiting for? Or will she let the prophesy come true?
My Thoughts: The characters were great. I loved them.
The plot was also very interesting. I really liked the concept of Earth’s twin planet, and the multiple gods and goddesses. I liked that these gods were color-coded almost, and each had a specific priest serving him. I will say, however, that the plot is a bit abrupt and hard to grasp at first. Suddenly Kaia and the boy she just met are whisked away by priestesses and given a task that has something to do with Kaia’s grandmother. It’s not very clear at first what is going on. I got the sense that the characters were just accepting it, too.
The writing style turned me off a bit. It’s not bad, though there are some awkward sentences and word uses. I didn’t notice any obvious spelling mistakes either. It was just something about the way the story of written that just made it difficult for me to keep reading. I think there are some things that need to be worked on before the rest of the series is published.
All-in-all, it wasn’t a bad book. There was a lot of adventure and fantasy, and some great characters.
