King of the Screwups Review

Title: King of the Screwups

Goodreads Description: Liam Geller is Mr. Popularity. Everybody loves him. He excels at sports; he knows exactly what clothes to wear; he always ends up with the most beautiful girls in school. But he’s got an uncanny ability to screw up in the very ways that tick off his father the most.
When Liam finally kicked out of the house, his father’s brother takes him in. What could a teenage chick magnet possibly have in common with his gay, glam rocker, DJ uncle who lives in a trailer in upstate New York? A lot more than you’d think. And when Liam attempts to make himself over as a nerd in a desperate attempt to impress his father, it’s his “aunt” Pete and the guys in his band who convince Liam there’s much more to him than his father will ever see.

My Thoughts: At first I thought this was going to be about a kid who actually screwed things up all the time. In reality, though, he only thinks he screws up because he is constantly trying to please a father who is never happy.

I love how, after spending his whole life spending time with his supermodel mother, fashion come so naturally for Liam. At the end I felt myself getting angry that he would think of joining the army just to make his dad happy, instead of modeling.

But I was so glad when Liam finally stood up to his father and made his own decisions. My only question is, why did it take so long? And why did he refuse to talk to Pete about what was bothering him? I kept thinking “talk to Pete, he knows exactly how you feel.” But it took him forever.

It was amusing, I will say. And very true. Very true.
